The ethics game simulation starts with the conversational e-mail messages. First part of the game is to analyze what is the main dilemma all about on the first and second situation. Then the ethics game simulation ask me to choose what is the main issue of the two part exercise. The ethics game make a decision ethically by using Baird Method. The Baird Method for ethical decision making was developed by Dr. Catharyn A. Baird, the designer of the original simulations (Ethicsgames, 2007). Baird Method has two components the four ethical lenses and 4+1 decision process.
The four ethical lens are:
Rights or responsibilities lens focus more about an ethical action on my duty and obligations.
Relationship lens focus more on ethical integrity.
Results lens is an ethical action focus more about doing what is the greatest good for all.
Reputation lens is focus on ethical decision based on virtue.
4+1 decision process is the step on how to decide. Baird method combines on how the person decide on different ethical perspective and then follow in through 4+1 process:
Step 1 of decision process be attentive, on this step I looking through the facts given to me, e-mail conversation and the situation given to me.
Step 2 of the decision process be intelligent, I was ask to evaluate the situation and ask who are the stakeholders of the company. Through determining the stakeholders I was able to analyze deeply the situation.
Step 3 is be reasonable. The goal of step 3 is to allow you to use your critical thinking skills to identify the option that will best meet the requirements of the law as well as the most important personal and organizational values (Ethicsgames, 2007). These option comes with the four ethical lenses. These lenses helps to determine my options on how I prioritize my ethical decisions.
Step 4 is be responsible, this is the step where I make my final choice based on one the four lenses I choose.
The last step is be reflective. This portion of the decision process, I will evaluate the process on what I learn on this situate so I can use it if ever this even will happen again. On the first situation I choose to have a lens of result lens. The Results Lens comes from the ethical tradition known as utilitarianism, part of the teleological tradition (Ethicsgames, 2007).
These ethical lenses help me think on what I prioritize the most. It made my decision to have a concealed idea and stick to what I believe the most what is right. The simulation helps on what I should do when I encounter the same dilemma. The simulation assisted me to learn how to handle upcoming ethical decisions.
